The Marquette Guest Chair: One of the Chairs That Started It All

Some furniture designs come and go. Others have that simple, timeless look that continues to work year after year. The Marquette Guest Chair is one of those chairs—and truly one of the chairs that started it all for us.

I have always liked the Marquette because it proves that furniture for a pediatric office doesn't have to look childish. You can bring color and personality into a waiting room while still creating a space that feels comfortable and appropriate for older children, teenagers and parents.

A Laminated Wood Chair with Unexpected Comfort

At first glance, the Marquette looks beautifully simple. But one of the things that makes this chair different is its flexible laminated hardwood shell.

The shell has a little responsiveness to it, providing an unexpected level of comfort from a streamlined wood chair. That makes it a great option for waiting rooms where you want something attractive, durable and easy to incorporate into your overall design.

And then comes the fun part—choosing the look.

So Many Ways to Make It Your Own

The Marquette is available with two perimeter shell shapes, and you can choose from numerous finishes, including both traditional wood tones and colorful semi-transparent wood finishes.

I particularly love using several coordinating colors together. You don't necessarily need every chair to be a different color. Repeating a few colors throughout the room can create a much more pulled-together look while still giving the space plenty of personality.

There are also multiple cutout patterns available for the chair back, as well as custom cutout and engraving possibilities. The cutouts are actual openings in the wood shell, which adds another subtle design detail without making the chair feel overly juvenile.

A Great Choice for Older Pediatric Patients

When people think about pediatric waiting-room furniture, they sometimes immediately picture tiny chairs, cartoon characters and primary colors.

But pediatric practices aren't only seeing little children.

Your waiting room may need to accommodate a toddler, a 15-year-old and a parent at the same time. That's one reason I like the Marquette so much. It gives you an opportunity to use color without making the room feel like it's designed only for very young children.

The same chair can work beautifully in pediatric medical and dental offices, orthodontic practices, family practices and other healthcare waiting areas.

And the Pricing Is Hard to Beat

This is another reason the Marquette has remained such an appealing option.

For a commercial-grade laminated hardwood shell chair, the pricing is excellent. You get a chair with a clean contemporary appearance, a wide range of design choices and a 500-pound weight capacity without moving into the price range you might expect from this type of seating.

The Marquette is available with a sled base or four-leg base, and frame finish options include black powder coat or chrome. It can also be ordered with arms, and an upholstered seat can be added if you'd like additional comfort or another opportunity to bring color or pattern into the room.

For offices where storage flexibility matters, the chairs can also be stacked.

Don't Be Afraid of Color

One of my favorite parts of helping customers with pediatric waiting rooms is choosing colors.

You don't have to make the room loud to make it interesting.

A beautiful natural wood chair mixed with a few shades such as blue, green or orange can completely change the personality of a waiting area. Pair those colors with a sophisticated rug, artwork and neutral walls, and suddenly you have a space that feels welcoming to children and grown-ups.

That's exactly the balance I love to create.
